I was headed back home from a weekend in Vermont with my fam…specifically my brother and sister in law to celebrate the birth of their first baby girl.
Soooooooo, I though it apropos to write a little ditty on the awesomeness of pregnancy and all the things that can help you moms-to-be out there.
#1 TAKE YOUR VITS
(please)
As we all know its SUPER important to take a prenatal during pregnancy to assure a healthy fetal development.
And take it with food, as sometimes it will make women feel nauseous on an empty stomach.
#2 LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
Nutrition during pregnancy is so super important, listen to your body, and your cravings. Focus on veggies, fruits, meat from local sources, gluten free grains like rice and quinoa, nuts, seeds, beans, omega 3’s, and then avoiding sugar and processed foods…pretty please.
Being pregnant is not a ticket for a free ride to over consume; this is the ticket to pay attention to how you feel and what you crave and still eating foods that you know add health.
Shop the periphery. Shop local (as much as you can). And enjoy every morsel.
#3 KEEP MOVING
Our bodies are made to move, even when pregnant, and it’s incredibly beneficial to keep in shape while pregnant, as it will help with the birthing process.
So running, walking, yoga-ing, stretching, riding, and swimming are all great options.
There are some great yoga poses to help with nausea and indigestion as well. If you don’t know a good yogi to ask just shoot me an email and I’ll hook ya up.
#4 THE INFINITY SCARF
Pregnant or not this thing is awesome. I’ve heard a lot of mommas talking about the advantages and convince of this fashion accessory. You can wrap your baby in it, use it as a blanket, use it as a breastfeeding cover up, or just plain look good wearing it.
It comes in all sorts of colors and patterns and can be found on amazon, Etsy, maternity stores, or if you’re handy with a sewing machine, (unlike yours truly) you can make your own.
#5 TRUST YOUR INTUITION
This. Is. Huge.
You as a momma, brand new or the forth time around, know SO much more than you think you do or give yourself credit for.
We are bombarded by so much information out there about the “shoulds” and “should nots” around pregnancy. And while much of it deserves some attention, I am also going to give all of you mommas permission to TRUST and LISTEN to your gut and intuition.
Especially around
- VACCINE OPTIONS
- FOOD CHOICES
- MEDICATIONS
- YOUR BODY
- BREAST FEEDING
- BIRTHING OPTIONS
- And how to RAISE the little bug
Trust YOU.
Remember…women have been doing this for a long time.
And I’m super proud of you, this is such an awesome gift.
Cheers to new life, love, and my brothers new baby girl.
