There are a few things in my life that I just have to have, either because they add health or they just make my day run a bit smoother. Either way, thought I’d share.
An Eye Pillow
When we lived in Portland, my mother came to visit me and we went to one of the many markets that Oregon hosts and we found this booth run by an adorable woman selling handmade lavender eye pillows. We were so taken by her charm we bought a few.
At the time I was a eye pillow virgin and when I used it that night I was hooked.
Not only does it help with decreasing eye puffiness, it blocks out any extraneous light, which is essential for a good nights sleep.
Sleeping in total darkness is a MUST when it comes to adding health.
Why?
Well, because there is a gland that sits in the center of our brain and when its stimulated by light it sends out daytime hormones…which we want to come out during the, yes, DAYTIME.
At NIGHT we want the nighttime hormones to thrive. In particular growth hormone.
Growth hormone is super awesome because one of its main jobs is to heal, repair and regenerate our organs.
The ONE thing that sleeps at night is our BRAIN, the rest of our body is madly working to detox, heal, regenerate, and repair.
With the help of GH.
So if we are sleeping with LD lights, computers, nightlights, clocks, street lamps, TVs, or phones ON its stimulating that gland, sending out the hormones that are supposed to be pumped out during the day.
If this is happening do you think your body is fully repairing?
Nope.
So use a trusty eye pillow.
Fresh Herbs
Not a meal goes by without these.
And its whatever is coming out of the garden, farmers market, window boxes, or planters.
I use fresh basil, mint, cilantro and parsley in salads, dressings, marinades, sauces, put them in my smoothies, any excuse to get them in and down the hatch ill take.
Rosemary, sage, thyme, oregano, marjoram, tarragon, chives, all play a great roll with the more savory treats like meat dishes, roasted veggies, salads, and dressings.
Ditch the dried stuff and reach for fresh ALWAYS.
Maldon Salt
I’m a salt fanatic and fully admittedly a salt snob and this flakey delishousness is the bomb. It’s the best salt I’ve ever had. I use it on steaks, salads, sprinkled on fresh tomatoes with a fresh grind of pepper, or as a dip for fresh radishes.
Vitamix
For those of you who do shakes or smoothies for ANY meal or snack NEED one of these. Its worth the dollars. It makes your life so much easier and way more dahlish.
You can also use it for sauces, dressings, soups, cocktails, mocktails, and marinades.
Fresh Flowers
Flowers make me happy. I’m a believer in doing things that make us happy and feel alive and appreciate the earth. So I have flowers all over our house.
Always.
You can too.
